Kicking off our production focus this month is a new independent feature about the first professional Somali-British boxing champion, Ramla Ali. In the Shadows recently wrapped a shoot in London and stars BAFTA-winning actor Jasmine Jobson (Bird, Top Boy) as professional boxer Ali. The inspiring true story, directed by another BAFTA winning talent, documentary filmmaker Anthony Wonke, recounts Ali's move to the UK as a refugee, battles with her family over her career path, and her eventual rise to the top of professional boxing.

Fighting her way to the championship, the biopic addresses urgent themes of immigration, identity, faith and the complexity of falling in love amidst it all. Ali is an inspiration in her own right, going on to pursue modelling and activism, launching boxing charities across the UK after clinching gold medals and championship belts across the globe.

Up next, Riz Ahmed, a proud Film London alumnus, writes, produces and stars in a new comedy drama for Amazon MGM Studios now filming in London. Quarter Life sees Ahmed play a struggling actor on the verge of landing a breakout role who faces a sudden onslaught of existential anxiety. As his breakdown worsens, Ahmed's Shah Latif is consumed by conspiratorial and reality-bending events. This will be an exciting return to comedy for Ahmed, who rose to fame in films such as Film London Microwave's Shifty and the harrowing yet hilarious Four Lions. The series has been filming in the capital, adding to the impressive array of productions choosing London as a production hub.

Other notable productions currently filming on location and/or in studio include:

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part Two - Tom Cruise returns for the eighth film in the franchise as Ethan Hunt seeks to destroy the apocalyptically dangerous AI software known as 'The Entity'.

The Girlfriend -Film directed by and starring Robin Wright. Based on the novel of the same name, Wright stars as a mother whose life is disrupted by her son's new suspicious girlfriend.

The Agency - Political thriller starring Jeffrey Wright and Michael Fassbender based on the hit French series "Le Bureau des Legendes".

Project Hail Mary - Sci-Fi thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller with a script from The Martian screenwriter Andy Weir.

Untitled Jurassic Park Sequel - Fourth film in the rebooted franchise will be directed by Gareth Edwards and follow 2022's Jurassic World: Dominion.

Little Disasters - New drama for Paramount+ with Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner exploring themes of motherhood, broken trust and unstable friendships.

The Thursday Murder Club - Author and TV presenter Richard Osman's bestselling novel gets a much-anticipated adaptation by Netflix.

Fantastic Four: First Steps - Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn assume the iconic roles of group leader, Reed Richards, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing.

Chloe Zhao's Hamnet also makes our production list this month. Having filmed in Wales, the production continues in studio space in London. An Irish powerhouse duo of Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley star in this eagerly-anticipated adaptation of Maggie Farrell's 2020 novel of the same name. The bestselling story takes a fictional look into the creation of Shakespeare's Hamlet from the perspective of his wife Agnes. As Agnes grieves the loss of their 11 year old son, Hamnet, Shakespeare sets out to pen his most celebrated play, allowing us to explore the overwhelming nature of grief, marriage and artistic creation.

An Oscar winner for her modern masterpiece Nomadland, which followed her moving debut The Rider, we can't wait to see how Zhao transforms the novel for the screen. With the impressive casting of Mescal and Buckley, as well as Joe Alwyn and Emily Watson alongside, all the right pieces seem to be in place for a brilliant new film.
