The world’s animation industry descends on France from 21-27 June for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, with animators, studios, execs, buyers, commissioners, students and plenty more besides attending the world’s most renowned celebration of animation.
With our Animation Consultant, Julian Scott, on the ground to help London bang the drum for the city’s animation sector and help companies make connections we thought it was the perfect time to snapshot some of the London-related projects out in force at this year’s Festival, from kids’ TV and returning series to major feature animation projects.
London-based Lupus Films, a BAFTA-nominated and Emmy-winning film and TV studio, will be attending, with Mog’s Bad Thing among titles on their slate. Based on the loveable tabby created by Judith Kerr, the film made use of the UK’s Enhanced AVEC (IFTC) and is being repped by Serious Kids. Lupus will also be looking to speak to financiers about their Brambly Hedge adaptation.
Sticking with classic British storytelling, Hoho Entertainment will be seeking out a co-pro partner for Toad The Movie, which is based on Kenneth Grahame’s beloved Wind In The Willows character.
Warner Bros. will be presenting a range of animated projects, including The Cat In The Hat, Bad Fairies and Snoopy Unleashed, all of which made use of the enhanced AVEC.
Attending in an individual capacity will be animator Lysander Wong, whose Foreign Bodies is being screened in the Graduation Film strand. Lysander is one of the artists currently making a film as part of FLAMIN Animations – our fingers are crossed that he gets to return to Annecy with it next year!
Duncan Jones’ hugely anticipated Rogue Trooper adaptation will have its premiere at this year’s festival. The film comes courtesy of London Games Festival attendees and 2000ADowners Rebellion Studios and London-based production company Liberty Films.
Elsewhere, CAKE Entertainment will screen their new pre-school series Lucas And The Rock (which is being made in collaboration with European studios La Cabane and Thuristar), whileCamden’s Acamar will be sourcing shows for their recently-launched Again! Again! YouTube channel.
If you’re attending Annecy be sure to check out some of these incredible projects while soaking up everything the festival has to offer, and be sure to drop in to the Animation UK Pavilion if you need advice or guidance from either Julian or the Animation UK team.
