2023 has arrived with all new productions filming in the capital! Back in Action is currently filming in London with a star-studded cast of Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close filming on location throughout the city. Also filming this January is new limited series Black Cake and a new season of COBRA! We've also listed some of the exciting new films and TV shows on screen this January that filmed in London. Based on Charmaine Wilkerson's best-selling 2022 novel, Black Cake is a new Hulu drama series filming on location in London this month. Starring Chipo Chung and Anthony Mark Barrow, the series is set to span many decades and diverse locations in Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England and Southern California. This generational family drama, with a hint of murder mystery, tells the story of two siblings who, after the death of their mother, are exposed to old secrets about their past in the Caribbean.
Also filming in London this month is Back in Action, a new comedy-spy thriller from Netflix starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx. The star-studded cast also boasts Oscar-winner Glenn Close and Kyle Chandler and will be Diaz's first film since 2014! The film is set to continue filming in London this month with scenes and stunts sequences shot by the River Thames. We can't wait to see Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx Back in Action filming on the streets of the capital.
Sky TV hit show COBRA is back filming in London this month for its third season. COBRA: Rebellion sees Prime Minister Sutherland, played by Robert Carlyle, deal with the fallout of an environmental disaster. Inquiries into the disaster spiral into a governmental crisis as Sutherland's hold onto power is threatened by destructive internal forces. Previous seasons of the high-stakes political drama filmed at iconic London locations such as Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
Another exciting Sky Studios production is in the works, with Mary & George beginning production this January in London. The period drama tells the fascinating true story of Mary Villiers, played by Julianne Moore, who conspires with her son to climb the ladder of riches, titles and influence in Jacobean London. Using her son's seduction of King James I, Mary Villiers' ascension to the heights of English aristocracy is a tale we can't wait to see. New to Netflix this month is Lockwood and Co., a story of ghosts, magic and all things supernatural. Led by London-born Bridgerton actress Ruby Stokes, the new series follows a trio of teenage ghost hunters battling against deadly spirits in a bid to uncover sinister mysteries that could change the course of history. The show is based on the popular book series by Jonathan Stroud and will be released on January 27 boasting a wide range of London filming locations. You can catch the supernatural detectives in action in locations such as London's Haymarket, Claremont Square in Islington and Kensal Green Cemetery, the perfect location for a ghostly thriller. The show also filmed at Twickenham Film Studios and Ealing Studios.
Also on screen this month is Extraordinary, a new series that follows the desperate life of Jen, as she anxiously awaits for her superpowers to kick in. While the whole world and her mates enjoy their own superpowers, Jen, literally powerless, struggles to find her way through the bewildering maze of modern society. Airing on Disney+ and Hulu later this month, the show filmed on location in the City of London, from the dazzling corporate high-rises of Liverpool Street to the vibrant streets of Spitalfields and Brick Lane.
