FILM LONDON LODESTARS: Yazmin Joy Vigus
"Yazmin's short film Mermaids shows promise and at this early stage of her career she has pursued work as a directors assistant that will no doubt give her a huge amount of insight into her own creative practice."
Caragh Davison (BFI NETWORK Talent Programme Manager)
Yazmin is an emerging writer & director whose BFI NETWORK South West-backed short film Mermaids recently had its World Premiere at the BAFTA-qualifying Underwire Film Festival 2022, where she was nominated for Best Directing. She currently works as Director’s Assistant on a Netflix HETV show whilst being mentored by the director as part of a training scheme with Netflix—a post she applied for through Film London’s Equal Access Network.
Yazmin was selected for the BBC Writersroom Cornish Voices 2020-21, to develop an original TV pilot. She continues to develop original projects for film and television. Her ambition is to create and support intimate, emotionally complex (primarily, but not exclusively, female-led) stories that combine humanity and humour for the screen, at a world class standard.
