FILM LONDON LODESTARS: Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives - "Land of Arguments"
WHAT WE SAY
London’s Screen Archives (LSA) is a network of organisations across London with a collective vision: to preserve and share London’s history on film. Every Thursday, we draw attention to the richness of the LSA collections with our Film of the Week, which is shared on Twitter and forms the basis for a public vote for the LSA Lodestar. We’re delighted to not only be able to share the amazing diversity of our members’ moving image collections, but highlight the tireless work of archives like Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives, who ensure that stories from their borough and its communities are preserved and shared.
WHAT THEY SAY
We’re delighted that a film from our collection has been nominated as a Film London Lodestar. ‘Land of Arguments’ is a drama-documentary conceived, shot, and edited by a group of girls from Poplar in 1982. It explores the complex topic of ‘arguments’ and how they arise from a young person’s perspective. Like much of our film and video collection, it was the product of a Tower Hamlets Arts Council workshop, and remained largely forgotten about for almost four decades before being digitised by Film London. With the passage of time, its unpolished mix of authentic East End street life and a tough but charming young cast make for an engaging watch, and we can’t wait to share more gems from our collection in the future.
