Anna Engelhardt is an alias of a research-based media artist and writer. Interested in information wars, she works with the tension between evidence and fiction, looking into subjects from synthetic media to military cybernetics. Her film Adversarial Infrastructure (2020), produced using deepfake technology, investigates the Russian Crimean Bridge as infrastructural warfare used by Russia in the Crimean annexation. Her most recent work, Onset (2023), co-directed with Mark Cinkevich, uses an unholy alliance of medieval demonology, open-source intelligence and CGI animation to uncover the hidden life of Russian military outposts.
Engelhardt has shown her work at BFI London Film Festival, transmediale, Ars Electronica, Kyiv Biennial, Internationale Short Film Festival Oberhausen, The Henie Onstad Triennial for Photography and New Media, National Gallery of Art (Vilnius), among others. She is a core faculty at MA Information Design at Design Academy Eindhoven and co-editor of Chimeras: Inventory of Synthetic Cognition (2022, Onassis Foundation).
