News Story
Last week, our friends over at The New Black Film Collective (TNBFC) were forced to make the difficult decision to postpone this year’s TNB XPO due to Tube strikes threatened at the time.
Hot Off The Press! The TNBFC team have just announced new dates - 17 – 19 April - to run a slimmed down format of the XPO. We at Film London continue to partner with, support and promote TNB’s work to champion black representation and excellence, encouraging increased diversity within the Screen Industries both here and internationally.

We’ve proudly partnered on all four previous editions of TNB XPO, with Film London teams running sessions across the range of programmes and areas we cover. Highlights include launching our Film London Artists' Moving Image Network FLAMIN Animations scheme at TNB XPO in 2021, and running panels with each year’s cohort since. The panels showcase new works and offer behind-the-scenes insights into the creative processes of each year’s FLAMIN Animations cohort, highlighting bold, experimental approaches that push the boundaries of conventional animation, while also underscoring the importance of supporting emerging UK-based animators from underrepresented backgrounds. We’ve also dug into archival storytelling to bring black voices and stories to the fore. At last year’s XPO, the London’s Screen Archives: Undocumented panel explored how our Undocumented project collaborates with local communities to reclaim narratives through participatory archiving and film. Overall, the Film London project aims to recover and share the often-overlooked histories of London’s Black communities.
We love getting involved in the XPO’s Pitch ’N’ Mix: Pitching to Industry session, where emerging filmmakers present their ideas to experienced industry professionals, including Maggie Ellis, Film London’s Head of FLAMIN and Jordan McGarry, our Head of Talent Development and Production.
