Film London is pleased to announce the line up for this year’s Film London Production Finance Market (PFM). The two day Market will see 117 producers and filmmakers and 68 financiers come together for a series of 1:1 meetings as a way to navigate potential business partners and investment. The event was opened with a keynote from John Graydon, senior partner at Saffery, who discussed how he was heavily involved in the formation of the first UK Tax credits, how they have impacted the industry, and now the latest iteration the IFTC and its opportunity to lift the independent film production industry, in conversation with Judith Chan, Executive Director in Media Banking for Coutts & Co.

The team behind Grand Theft Hamlet will also present a case study about the making of the film. Having attended PFM’s New Talent Strand in 2023, Grand Theft Hamlet premiered at SXSW this year and won the Grand Jury award for Best Documentary Feature, and will have its UK premiere at LFF next week.

The 2023 edition of PFM saw 60 feature film projects presented with a total production value of around €172.66 million. The Market attracted over 190 attendees, facilitating 840 meetings from across the globe with delegates from 15 different countries. Various projects, in addition to Grand Theft Hamlet, have reported offers made and financiers boarded. Festival successes for recent New Talent Strand projects include: Tish (2021) opened Sheffield Doc/Fest last year, Last Swim (2020) premiered at Berlin this year and won the Generation 14+ Crystal Bear and Augure (2019) premiered at Cannes last year and won the New Voice Prize at Un Certain Regard.

Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said:

“Film London’s Production Finance Market is instrumental in connecting thousands of filmmakers and financiers, securing finance for some truly great projects and enforcing London’s reputation as a centre for the global film and screen content business.

“Independent films are an essential part of a balanced UK production ecosystem, providing the space to air fresh British voices. The introduction of a new tax credit for films with budgets up to £15m is a game-changer for our sector, with the potential to help independent film and stimulate more international investment and international co-production, and PFM is perfectly situated to foster those conversations and opportunities. We’re delighted to be joined by John Graydon and Judith Chan at this year’s PFM to discuss the ethos behind the tax credits, including the new IFTC. We’re also pleased to welcome the team behind Grand Theft Hamlet for a behind the scenes look at the making of the award winning documentary feature.”
