COVID-19

The screen industries are of course operating in unprecedented times and the impact of COVID-19 will undoubtedly be felt deeply as we work through this ever-evolving situation. Our primary concern is for the health and welfare of the workforce in an industry that has seen a hiatus of physical production and employment.

Production guidance for Film and High-End TV Drama is now available with the publication of ‘Working Safely During COVID-19 in Film and High-end TV Drama Production’ by the British Film Commission, produced as part of wider BFI Screen Sector COVID-19 Task Forces recovery initiatives.

In collaboration with the London Filming Partnership, Film London have created guidance for crews filming in public spaces in London. The COVID-19 Guidanceprovides a checklist of actions for crews to ensure that they operate within government guidelines and mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19 when on location.

Based on the popular book series of the same name by author Anthony Horowitz, TV spy drama Alex Rider is available to watch on Amazon Prime this month. The series follows the eponymous character as he is approached by MI6 after the sudden death of his uncle, to understand that he has been unknowingly trained for a job in espionage. Key scenes were filmed in Southwark, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hackney and Camden.

Angelina Jolie returns as infamous Disney villain in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, now available to watch on Disney+. Five years on in the storyline from the first instalment, a marriage proposal causes tensions to rise between Aurora and Maleficent, as well as new dark forces…Filming took place both on location at Syon Park in West London as well as Pinewood Studios.

It may not have gone ahead this year, but you can still get your song contest fix with Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star as two small-town singers who embark on a journey of a lifetime to become global singing sensations, by representing their country at the renowned competition, testing their bond along the way. Last Year, Film London helped facilitate filming at Warner Bros. Studios.

Also on Netflix is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. When an erupting volcano threatens the remaining dinosaurs on the island of the now closed theme park ‘Jurassic World’, Owen and Claire - played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard - must make sure they do not become extinct. But can they trust the help they’ve enlisted? Filming took place at Pinewood Studios, with the third instalment, Jurassic World: Dominion currently on production pause in London.
