Last week the Screen Summit 2024 took place at BFI Southbank. The event brought together producers, financiers and distributors of all sizes to explore the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead for the UK independent film industry.
The full day of sessions saw some of the UK’s leading voices in production, funding and distribution, taking a deep dive into the new Independent Film Tax Credit, co-producing with international partners and how to future-proof the UK industry in a turbulent market.

- Money Talks: the shape of the current private financing landscape
Sitting on the panel for The Talent Game: attaching top talent to projects, and how to bring more new voices into the industry, were: Number 9 Films, Elizabeth Karlsen, Actor and Producer, Jack Lowden, Independent Talent, Jane Epstein and HanyWay Films, Katie Ellen. Number 9’s Elizabeth Karlsen suggested low-budget features are a key way to support new talent and Jack Lowden said the film industry should utilise theatre talent more.
