News Story

The 2025 edition of FOCUS takes place on 8 & 9 December, and Film London will once again have a strong presence across the two days. FOCUS brings together practitioners, producers and pioneers of the creative industries to discuss the business of production and the future of on-screen entertainment.

On Monday 8 December at 9:40, head to Theatre 2 for AI in Film: A New Creative Dialogue.

As members of the creative community, we all have strong views about AI and what it means for us as storytellers, creators, craftspeople and producers. As part of its ongoing mission to support and futureproof the capital’s filmmaking ecosystem, Film London, in partnership with Fondation Liban Cinema and the British Council, sought to cut through the hype, snake oil and boosterism to see how AI tools could assist creatives at different stages of the filmmaking process. AI In Film: A New Creative Dialogue was the result: a pioneering project that saw two teams of UK-Lebanese filmmakers exploring the creative and practical applications of different AI tools as they crafted their short films. Whether you’ve rushed to embrace it or remain proudly analogue, one thing’s for certain: AI is here to stay. Led by Film London’s Head of Talent Development & Production, Jordan McGarry, this lively and insightful session will explore the initiative’s preliminary findings, interrogating the possibilities, limits, risks, ethics and complexities of such rapidly-evolving technology and discussing how the tech has evolved in the short time since the project’s inception.

On Tuesday 9 December at 10:40, had to Theatre 2 for Pathway to Fossil-Fuel-Free Film & TV.

As film and TV productions turn more and more to sustainable options, when can the use of fossil fuel be phased out in London? The data shows that huge carbon savings can be made in Film and TV. So what's holding us back? Roxy Erickson and Michelle Jenkins give a run down of the key developments made in our sector up to now and present the opportunities created by transitioning to low carbon technologies. From the Grid Project to the Fuel Project, hear about new ways to power the industry.
