News Story
BFI NETWORK Shorts School was a week-long Lab dedicated to the moving image, in the short form, that took place from Monday 12 to Friday 16 April.
Over the course of a week, Shorts School participants heard insights and lessons from industry practitioners, established creators and each other and now many of the classes that were part of that event are available to watch in full. Whether you’re working towards your first short or sixth, Shorts School is for early level writers, directors & producers to explore case studies, creative process, navigating the industry with your short work, and everything you need to know about applying to the BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund.
Guest speakers included: writer-director Jim Cummings (Thunder Road) on DIY filmmaking, Head of Content Ahmad Swaid (Dazed, NOWNESS) on leveraging your project through digital storytelling on social media, Development Producer Angeli Macfarlane & Psychotherapist Arabel Charlaff on applying psychoanalytic theory to writing complex characters, PR Strategists Tom Brumpton & Katie McCullogh on shaping your short film’s film festival campaign (virtually & IRL), and of course Film London’s BFI NETWORK Talent Execs, Matt Ajan and Jo Cadoret.
The talks from Christopher Hayden, Angeli Macfarlane/Arabel Charlaff and Rosie Westhoff will be available to watch shortly.
The BFI NETWORK Short Film Fund and Early Development Fund are both now closed for applications. You can learn more about BFI NETWORK funding here.
