Etienne Joseph – Hackney Archives

Etienne entered archives 15 years ago, supporting a London-based African-Caribbean Dance organisation with their collections. This led him to formal archival training, and eventually a doctoral research project exploring the idea of the living archive. He has since co-founded the Decolonising the Archive initiative in an effort to develop theory, practice, and training around what archives can mean for people of African heritage living in the UK. Joining Hackney Archives in 2017, his work there has been characterised by a person-centred approach with a focus on supporting the visibility and accessibility of community heritage not usually found in institutional collections.

Diana Manipud – Brent Museum and Archives

Diana has been a qualified Archivist since 2015 with nearly 14 years experience of working in the archive sector. Currently an Archives Officer at Brent Museum and Archives, she has been part of a team that achieved full Archives Accreditation for the service in 2024. In 2021, she co-led the delivery of Coal, Dole and Dinner Ladies, an interactive theatre production inspired by the 1984-85 Miner’s Strike collection held at Brent Archives. Diana was the project lead for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 heritage project which focussed on uncovering the hidden histories of women’s football across England.

Genova Messiah – Tower Hamlets Local History Library &Archives

Starting as a volunteer at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives, Genova progressed to Heritage Trainee in 2019 and completed the Library Information & Archives Studies Apprenticeship in 2022, creating the Community Archives: Caring for your Collections Guide, an introduction to appraising and preserving records at home or place of work. As Engagement & Learning Officer, she promotes education and access through workshops, exhibitions, and educational sessions for schools. Addressing gaps in representation, she is keenly developing the archive’s oral history collection, and has worked on the podcast East End History In an Object, highlighting unique records from Tower Hamlets’ collections.
