Join Other Cinemas for a screening of Phantom Beirut (اشباح بيروت) by Ghassan Salhab at the next Majlis Film Club. Phantom Beirut is a haunting exploration of the official silences and collective amnesias that stalk the lives of those who live through war. Set in the late 1980s, towards the end of the Lebanese Civil War, the film stages the return of the protagonist Khalil to Beirut 10 years following his supposed death, setting the scene for an ensuing confrontation between Khalil and the friends he deserted.
