We’re thrilled to welcome back Angeli Macfarlane, who will be delivering the new lab, The Script Sessions! Designed for writers developing their first feature script draft or already have a draft in hand.
Across three in-depth online sessions, she will guide participants, getting into the nuts and bolts of crafting a feature film script — from shaping your initial concept to refining your draft and the next steps for further development. This lab will be especially valuable for those planning to apply to the Production Finance Market this year.
We're excited to announce that writer and director Laura Carreira will be joining as a guest speaker, on her breakout debut feature On Falling. It had it's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2024 and received further festival awards including the Best First Feature Sutherland Award at the BFI London Film Festival 2024. Laura will be conversation with Angeli on her writing journey in creating an emotionally resonant story.
The sessions will be led by Angeli Macfarlane — a writer, producer, and story editor with extensive experience in development at organisations such as Film London, Film4, BBC Film, the BFI, and Pathé. Her writing credits include LOLA (IFTA-nominated for Best Screenplay) and MOMO, with new TV and film projects currently in development. She also produces debut features and teaches screenwriting at the National Film and Television School.
Past participants of Angeli's previous labs have said;
"It was perfect, covering the main topics and pitched at exactly the right level, with lots of depth and first hand insights that are of more use than straight theory."
"Angeli Macfarlane's approach to writers and scripts is unlike any of the others I have been taught by (...) and hers, to me, is by far and away the best."
"Generally brilliant. Angeli mentioned 'unknown unknowns' in the first lesson (...) things I'd not even thought of that proved very useful. Mainly ways to question your ideas and interrogate the script that made sense in the context of writing."
Participants will leave the lab with practical tools for shaping their ideas into compelling screen stories, along with fresh insights into development that support the creative intent and ambition of their work.
Taking place on 3-5 June 2025, from 1pm each day, online on Zoom. Join us and book your place!
