The business of storytelling is constantly evolving and the last few years have only accelerated the pace of change, with shifts in how we engage with technology and of course, new Covid-19 curveballs in the mix.

This Lab is for independent producers to learn how to get projects off the ground in the current funding climate — whether film, TV, podcasting or other IP — and writers/directors with a big idea and questions about what to do with it.

Each of the 3 days (6 sessions total) will be devoted to the business side of a different craft: film on the first day, television on the second, and on the third day we will explore alternative media, from immersive entertainment to podcasting, both as new business possibilities and paths to building audiences and proof of concept.

You’ll hear from established producers, writers, commissioners and execs along the way, to learn how to package your ideas and in what direction to run with them.

The lab will help you:

  • Choose the right medium for your project, with case studies from alternative media trailblazers like Nosa Eke
  • Clearly understand film financing and the recoupment “waterfall”, with insights from lawyer/producer Tom Guida and indie producer Uzma Hasan (The Infidel)
  • Navigate the world of TV with advice from Working Title’s Head of Drama Surian Fletcher-Jones and Casarotto agent Emma Obank

Three days that will leave you informed, empowered and inspired.
