Xianyi Zhang
Xianyi Zhang (Andy) is a London-based filmmaker and moving image artist whose narrative-rich works draw on diverse influences from her hometown, Shanghai, China. Since 2018, her passion for experimental film has led her into multifaceted artistic expressions. After earning an MA in Film from the University of the Arts London, she continues to explore the challenges of urbanization, focusing on themes of alienation and self-discovery. Xianyi's work often highlights underrepresented groups from a female perspective, with narratives that delve into identity, societal dynamics, and the human condition. Her restrained style embodies a quiet defiance, expressing a spirit of rebellion through her films.
Her works have been featured in group exhibitions at Ugly Duck and ArtSect Gallery (London), Punch Gallery (Washington D.C.), and Art Number 23 (Athens); published in Artist Talk Magazine, Issue 30; and selected for festivals like the Beijing International Short Film Festival and That Film Festival Berlin.
