WHAT WE SAY
Tayo got her first role in the Equal Access Network as a Base Runner on Top Boy and has since soared her way up to director’s assistant on major productions. In between jobs, she writes & directs her own shorts and has also been given the opportunity to direct on the 2nd Unit of some of the productions she has worked on. On top of all that, she has come back to the Equal Access Network to teach members the things she has learnt and often sits on panels at events we are invited to.
Tayo Odesanya is a writer and director based in South London. Her work was first recognised in 2015 when the graduation film she wrote Maya amassed over 10 nominations from festivals globally. Since then, Tayo has worked her way up in the industry from a runner to a director’s assistant, working on the likes of BBC’s PRU and Channel 4/Netflix’s Top Boy, while marking herself as an emerging director in her own right.
Tayo has recently completed a slate of documentary shorts that explores the stories of youth growing up in Hackney with Immediate Theatre’s Estate Based Youth charity. This project identifies the barriers they face to achieving their aspirations.
A project made possible through the Walk A Mile In My Shoes campaign created by Idris Elba with shoe designer Christian Louboutin. She has also recently completed a Directors Mentee programme with Netflix and Apple TV.
