FILM LONDON LODESTARS: John Ogunmuyiwa
"John's short film work is so exciting and I love how he blends the everyday with more surrealist elements. His acute observations of daily life merged with more high concept moments make his work feel unique and elevated."
Caragh Davison (BFI NETWORK Talent Programme Manager)
John Ogunmuyiwa is an award-winning Nigerian-born London-bred filmmaker who works in both documentary and fiction. His work draws upon a constant questioning of what it means to be normal. Using daily observations as a base, he tends to bring a tinge of surrealism into his work. All with the aim of telling untold stories from a different perspective.
A sterling case in point is his BFI NETWORK-funded short Precious Hair & Beauty, an ode to the mundanity and madness of the high street, told through the window of an African hair salon. Precious was selected for the BFI London Film Festival and Sundance, and was nominated for Best Short Film at both festivals as well as at the British Independent Film Awards. Since finishing the film, John has signed to Blink Productions for music video and commercials representation and has been developing two features and prepping on a TV project.
