Find out which new film and TV shows are filming in London this month! Award-winning stars such as Damian Lewis and Kelly Macdonald are filming in London this July, with new shows from Netflix and Disney Plus in production. Filming has begun for Netflix’s new teen series Geek Girl. The series is based on Holly Smale’s best-selling book series including popular titles such as her debut-hit Geek Girl (2013), Model Misfit (2013), Picture Perfect (2014) and Forever Geek (2017). The show has been picked up by Netflix for 10, 30-minute episodes. The series adapts the story of socially awkward teenager Harriet Manners, who struggles to fit in with her peers until she is discovered as a top fashion model, turning her world upside down. Emily Carey (House of the Dragon, Wonder Woman) takes the lead role of the series alongside a cast consisting of: Sarah Parish, Emmanuel Imani, Liam Woodrum, Zac Looker, Tim Downie, and Jemima Rooper. The series has begun filming in London and we are excited to see how this story unfolds!

Production for Sky Original film, The Radleys, has begun and is set to be filmed in London and Yorkshire! Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by best-selling author Matt Haig, the film follows the Radleys, a family of vampires who abstain from drinking blood. Hiding their secret from the world and even their own kids, the truth slips out as their children start to give-in to their natural cravings. Emmy and Golden Globe Winner Damian Lewis has been cast as the lead alongside Emmy winner Kelly Macdonald, and BAFTA nominee Shaun Parkes. With elements of a thriller and black comedy, we’re looking forward to a unique and witty story with this one!

Another highly anticipated Disney Plus Series is filming in London this month. The new historical series, Beaumont, tracks the lives of several characters as they grow up in Belfast during the Troubles. Beaumont has begun filming in locations around Sheffield and Liverpool, with filming also set to take place in the capital. Details about the cast have not yet been revealed, although we’re looking forward for this new show to be streamed on Disney Plus at some point in the next year.

Other notable productions currently filming on location and/or in studio include:

Andor season 2 - Thrilling space espionage show, starring Diego Luna as the titular lead accompanied by an impressive array of supporting talent, returns for a second season and has started filming in Pinewood.

Belgravia: The Next Chapter - New 8-part drama series taking place 25 years after the original season of Belgravia. Set amongst the upper classes of 19th century London society.

Wicked (Parts One and Two) - Big-budget musical based on the hit stage show starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Michelle Yeoh.

House of the Dragon season 2 - Critically-acclaimed Games of Thrones prequel that takes us back to King's Landing, 200 years before the events of the original series.

Queenie - New 8 x 30 drama from acclaimed British author Candice Carty-Williams who is adapting her prize-winning debut novel into a new series for Channel 4.

Knuckles - From Sonic The Hedgehog director Jeffrey Fowler. Idris Elba will reprise his role as the titular character, Sonic's best friend and former nemesis.

Industry season 3 - High-stakes drama returning to film in the City of London's financial quarter.

Silo season 2 - Apple TV+ dystopian sci-fi drama starring Rebecca Ferguson and Rashida Jones.

Heads of State - New action thriller from Amazon Studios featuring Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and John Cena.

A Thousand Blows - New period drama for Disney+ featuring Stephen Graham and The Crown's Erin Doherty and is set in the murky underworld of crime, illegal boxing and thievery in 1880s London.

Amateur - Thriller starring Oscar-winner Rami Malek, Caitriona Balfe, Rachel Brosnahan, from Slow Horses director James Hawes.

The Diplomat season 2 - Hit political thriller for Netflix starring Kerri Russell as U.S Ambassador to UK, Kate Wyler.

Beetlejuice 2 - Sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 fantasy-comedy featuring Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.

Deadpool 3 - Ryan Reynolds as the foolish and foul-mouthed Marvel superhero. Third film in series will also feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Surface season 2 - Gugu Mbatha-Raw stars in second season of this psychological thriller for Apple TV.

SAS: Rogue Heroes season 2 - Based on the true story of the creation of the SAS. The hit-first season was brought to us by the creators of Peaky Blinders and starred Dominic West and Jack O'Connell.

Mr Bates Vs The Post Office - True-crime drama retelling the story of hundreds of postal workers wrongly accused of fraud, starring Toby Jones.

Joan - True-crime drama set in the criminal underworld of 1980s London where infamous jewel thief Joan Hannington, played by Sophie Turner, rises to notoriety as a criminal mastermind.

Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited film, Barbie, is out in UK cinemas on July 21! With Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film follows the iconic pair as they escape from the playful, utopian world of Barbie Land. Whilst attempting to navigate the human world, Barbie and Ken get themselves into trouble with the big suits at notorious toy company, Mattel. The cast is filled with Hollywood stars such as Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey and more. Also look out for cameos from other surprise celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Anne Hathaway! Barbie Land was magically recreated just outside of London, at Warner Bros. The Effects of Lying is set to launch on ITVX on July 6th. The new comedy-drama was filmed in various locations throughout North London and follows a loyal husband and father whose life is turned upside down when an array of secrets unfolds in front of him. Laila Rouass and Ace Bhatti lead this chaotically charming British indie feature, and we can’t wait for its debut during South Asian Heritage Month this year!

Fancy catching up on a modern classic on BBC iPlayer this month? London features on screen in newly released films on the app including both Paddington films. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread is also on iPlayer this July, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, Lesley Manville and a plethora of stylish London film locations! The ‘House of Woodcock’ was recreated at 4 Fitzroy Square, Fitzrovia, with outdoor scenes also having filmed in Gordon Square and St Mary’s Gardens in Lambeth.
