Filming has begun for Netflix’s new teen series Geek Girl. The series is based on Holly Smale’s best-selling book series including popular titles such as her debut-hit Geek Girl (2013), Model Misfit (2013), Picture Perfect (2014) and Forever Geek (2017). The show has been picked up by Netflix for 10, 30-minute episodes. The series adapts the story of socially awkward teenager Harriet Manners, who struggles to fit in with her peers until she is discovered as a top fashion model, turning her world upside down. Emily Carey (House of the Dragon, Wonder Woman) takes the lead role of the series alongside a cast consisting of: Sarah Parish, Emmanuel Imani, Liam Woodrum, Zac Looker, Tim Downie, and Jemima Rooper. The series has begun filming in London and we are excited to see how this story unfolds!
Production for Sky Original film, The Radleys, has begun and is set to be filmed in London and Yorkshire! Adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by best-selling author Matt Haig, the film follows the Radleys, a family of vampires who abstain from drinking blood. Hiding their secret from the world and even their own kids, the truth slips out as their children start to give-in to their natural cravings. Emmy and Golden Globe Winner Damian Lewis has been cast as the lead alongside Emmy winner Kelly Macdonald, and BAFTA nominee Shaun Parkes. With elements of a thriller and black comedy, we’re looking forward to a unique and witty story with this one!
Another highly anticipated Disney Plus Series is filming in London this month. The new historical series, Beaumont, tracks the lives of several characters as they grow up in Belfast during the Troubles. Beaumont has begun filming in locations around Sheffield and Liverpool, with filming also set to take place in the capital. Details about the cast have not yet been revealed, although we’re looking forward for this new show to be streamed on Disney Plus at some point in the next year.

Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited film, Barbie, is out in UK cinemas on July 21! With Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film follows the iconic pair as they escape from the playful, utopian world of Barbie Land. Whilst attempting to navigate the human world, Barbie and Ken get themselves into trouble with the big suits at notorious toy company, Mattel. The cast is filled with Hollywood stars such as Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey and more. Also look out for cameos from other surprise celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Anne Hathaway! Barbie Land was magically recreated just outside of London, at Warner Bros. The Effects of Lying is set to launch on ITVX on July 6th. The new comedy-drama was filmed in various locations throughout North London and follows a loyal husband and father whose life is turned upside down when an array of secrets unfolds in front of him. Laila Rouass and Ace Bhatti lead this chaotically charming British indie feature, and we can’t wait for its debut during South Asian Heritage Month this year!
Fancy catching up on a modern classic on BBC iPlayer this month? London features on screen in newly released films on the app including both Paddington films. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread is also on iPlayer this July, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, Lesley Manville and a plethora of stylish London film locations! The ‘House of Woodcock’ was recreated at 4 Fitzroy Square, Fitzrovia, with outdoor scenes also having filmed in Gordon Square and St Mary’s Gardens in Lambeth.
