The 75th Berlin International Film Festival began on 13 February, and Film London are in attendance flying the flag for the London film industry, along with the wider UK nations and regions, at the dedicated UK stand.
Visual Effects: New Opportunities to Work with the UK
On 14 February we were proud to deliver an event in collaboration with London and Partners to share insights into the UK’s award-winning VFX.
The UK’s VFX sector has received a boost, with increased tax relief for visual effects in film and high-end tv from April 2025.
Moderated by Louise Conolly-Smith of London & Partners, the panel of industry experts included Lara Lom, Rise VFX, Helena Mackenzie, Film London and Neil Hatton, UK Screen Alliance.
The panel discussed London and the UK’s global connectivity, diverse talent pool, incredibly varied and broad offer, from locations and stage space to VFX vendors and expertise.
Speakers also expressed their desire to work more with their European counterparts on joint projects as well as highlighting the UK’s competitive tax incentives and how they directly benefit VFX production.

CineRegio: Supporting Sustainable Filmmaking
Film London also met with some our CineRegio partners at Berlinale. CineRegio is a network of regional film funds in Europe that launched a Manifesto for Sustainable Filming last year.
Excitingly, several films screened at this year’s Berlin Film Festival that have embraced sustainable filmmaking practices throughout production. These included: opening gala Welcome Home Baby, funded by Cineregio members Filmfonds Wien and the Lower Austrian Film Commission; Mother's Baby, which was funded by Filmfonds Wien, Hessen Film & Medien and the Lower Austrian Film Commission; and Paternal Leave, which was funded by members Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Hessen Film & Medien and Catalunya Film Commission.
