Annecy Festival 2023 took place this month from the 11th to the 17th of June.
Over the course of its 60 years, the Annecy Festival has established itself as a global event dedicated to animation, bringing together the most esteemed professionals from the sector to celebrate animation’s creative and diverse styles and techniques.
Film London supported the UK Pavilion at the festival alongside Creative Wales, Northern Ireland Screen, Screen Scotland and the Department for Business and Trade. The pavilion served as a hub for delegates, brimming with resources about collaborative opportunities within the UK. This rendezvous point was brought to life by Animation UK, and powered by the BFI, with National Lottery funding.
Film London’s Animation Consultant, Julian Scott, attended the festival to fly the flag for London. Julian is a BAFTA nominated executive producer who has developed, financed and co-produced films and television series in the international arena for over 25 years, and COO at KidsCave Studios.
London is the largest animation hub in the UK with more than fifty world-class animation producers and studios specialising in 2D, CGI and stop-frame animation. Our studios have been working with international partners for more than twenty-five years delivering some of the finest and innovative animation seen on screens big and small around the world.
London’s LUPUS FILMS’ title Kensuke’s Kingdom featured in the festival. A young boy shipwrecked on a remote island discovers he is not alone when he encounters a hostile old Japanese soldier who retreated there after World War II. As dangerous invaders appear on the horizon, it becomes abundantly clear that they will have to join forces to save their fragile island paradise.
