Date posted: 10.03.2020
Comedy drama Military Wives directed by The Full Monty’s Peter Cattaneo and starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan, opened in cinemas last Friday. Inspired by real military communities, a group of women whose partners are serving in Afghanistan decide to form a choir which quickly becomes a global media sensation. Filming took place at a variety of London locations including Royal Albert Hall, Kensington and Hemel Hempstead.
Also out in cinemas at the end of this week is pageant drama Misbehaviour. Based on the events of the 1970 Miss World beauty competition in London, with filming transforming the likes of Harrow School, Clapham and Wimbledon Theatre, Keira Knightley and Jessie Buckley star as activists from the Women’s Liberation movement who make plans to disrupt the competition.
War of the Worlds is Fox’s new eight-part drama based on the famous story by H.G. Wells, written and created by Howard Overman (Misfits, Merlin). Set in present-day Europe, an alien invasion wipes out almost all of civilisation, with those left questioning exactly why and how this all happened. Locations include Charing Cross, Battersea Park, Trafalgar Square and Southwark Bridge.
Starting production this month is Amazon’s The Power. Based on the feminist sci-fi novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will, which drastically affects the world’s power balance.
Studio productions commencing this month include musical comedy Cinderella starring singer Camilla Cabello, and dinosaur action-adventure Jurassic World: Dominion starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Jurassic Park original actors Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum.
