On Screen

Now out in cinemas is biopic Judy, depicting the meteoric rise and struggles of American actress, singer, dancer, and vaudevillian Judy Garland, played by Renee Zellweger. The film focuses on the star’s sold-out run of shows at London nightclub The Talk of The Town, with filming taking place in Hornsey, Hackney, Holloway and Soho – to which the Talk of The Town, now called the Hippodrome resides - as well as stage work at Pinewood, Shepperton and West London Film Studios.

October also welcomes the return of Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent, in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora are put to the test with new relationships which create both allies and enemies… The film shot at Syon Park and Pinewood Studios.

Starting production is Black Narcissus, a three-part TV adaptation of Rumer Godden’s novel, previously adapted the 1947 Oscar-winning film by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Black Narcissus follows Sister Clodagh, who leads the nuns of St Faiths to a convent high in the Himalayan mountains. However, jealousy and tension arise as Sister Clodagh and Sister Ruth both come to terms with their unspoken desires for land agent Mr Dean.

The hugely anticipated fourth season of Netflix drama The Crown has begun filming, which will chart the next chapter in royal history, introducing to the mix Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher.
