May: London on Screen and Filming

The highly anticipated Elton John biopic Rocketman directed by Dexter Fletcher, will blast onto our screens late May after its premiere at Cannes. The film tells the story of the singer’s breakthrough years with a stellar cast comprising of Taron Egerton, Richard Madden and Jamie Bell. Scenes were shot in Elton’s home town of Pinner, as well as Westminster, Camden, Ealing & Southwark. Landmark locations include the Royal Albert Hall, Pall Mall and St James’ Square.

Warner Bros. Detective Pikachu hit cinemas last Friday, transforming London’s Brick Lane, Old Truman Brewery, Hackney and Islington into Ryme City- where humans and Pokémon live together. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu and Justice Smith as Tim Goodman, Tim and Pikachu join forces to unravel the mystery of Tim’s missing father.

Also out in cinemas is The Hustle, a comedy remake of 1964 Bedtime Story and 1988 Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson as a pair of scam artists. With differing methods of practice, the two team up to take down the men who have wronged them and attempt to swindle a naïve tech billionaire. Scenes were shot at Richmond Riverside, Westminster and Albert Embankment.

Amazon Original’s adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 novel Good Omens, will be available online at the end of this month. The comic fantasy stars Michael Sheen as angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as demon Crowley, who together, must find a way to save the world as Armageddon approaches. Set in 2018, make sure to spot scenes filmed in a range of London locations including Ealing and Battersea Park.

Filming

The 25th instalment of the espionage franchise, currently titled Bond 25 will see Daniel Craig go up against confirmed villain and Oscar winner Rami Malek, whilst Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge will join the writers team. Filming will take place in a variety of locations including Jamaica and Italy, as well as the famous ‘007 Stage’ at London’s Pinewood Studios.

Sky One’s high-profile comedy Hitmen, starring former Bake Off hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, begins production this month. Perkins and Giedroyc play friends Fran and Jamie, who happen to be extremely inept hitmen, a career which they stumbled across. Working out of their van, the duo hopelessly try to carry out their latest hit, inevitably derailed by incompetence, bickering, and inane antics.
