Film London has travelled down under to attend the 2019 Melbourne International Film Festival, which kicked off last Thursday. Participating in various seminars, screenings, markets and networking events, Film London representatives will continue to sustain and develop business and cultural links between the two cities.
As part of a series of public events presented by MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator Lab, Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission returns with his acclaimed Illustrated Film Talks, this year focusing on musical movie legends. Having already delivered talks on Sammy Davis Jr and Barbra Streisand earlier this week, Adrian will also present on David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe, providing insight into their careers and crossover between film and music, accompanied by videos and photographs charting both their personal and professional life. Adrian recently sat down for a Q&A about this year’s lectures, which you can read here.
Adrian will also participate in the Shorts: Calling card or artform seminar on 8th August as part of the MIFF 37ºSouth Market and Accelerator Lab. This will be a panel discussion surrounding the on-going question of whether short films are an art form in themselves, or more a calling card for wider opportunities.
Film London's Head of Inward Investment and Business Development, Helena Mackenzie, is also attending the festival, celebrating 10 years of partnership between 37ºSouth Market and Film London’s Production Finance Market – an annual 2 day financing event for film, helping to forge long-term business relationships and investment. Mackenzie will be on the look out to identify Australian producers to attend this year’s PFM, taking place from 7th-8th October.
