On Screen

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw – a spin off instalment from the Fast & Furiousfranchise - exploded onto our screens last Friday. With Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles as lawman Luke Hobbs and lawless outcast Deckard Shaw, the pair who famously don’t see eye to eye must team up in order to defeat cyber-genetically enhanced villain Brixton (Idris Elba) who is on course to change the face of humanity. Filming took place in various London locations such as Leadenhall Street, Green Naval College and Piccadilly- the last of which can be seen in the trailer here.

Blinded by the Light, directed by Bend it Like Beckham’s Gurinder Chadha is out in cinemas on 14th August. Set in the 1980’s during a time of racial and economic unrest, transforming the likes of Harrow and Ealing, teenager Javed attempts to navigate his identity against that of family tradition and society with the help of Bruce Springsteen’s music.

Rounding off the month is Angel Has Fallen, the third offering in the Olympus Has Fallen series. Gerard Butler returns as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, framed for an assassination attempt on the President (Morgan Freeman). Now pursued by his own agency and the FBI, Banning must clear his name and uncover the real terrorist threat. Filming took place all over the capital, from the lake at Virginia Water, to Brent Civic Centre!

Not only is the Fast & Furious franchise on our screens, but it is also in production! Fast & Furious 9 will see the return of character favourites played by Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Ludacris as the team embark on yet another high-speed adventure.

Also filming on location this month is Enola Holmes. Based on the novel series by Nancy Springer and starring Millie Bobbi Brown, Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter, the film will follow the detective skills of Sherlock’s younger sister, Enola.

London will transform back to the Victorian era with Joss Whedon’s sci-fi drama and HBO series The Nevers, to which a group of women not only find themselves with unusual abilities, but also ruthless enemies and a mission that could change the world…
