Arts Council England renews funding for FLAMIN

Date posted: 27.06.2017

We are pleased to announce that Arts Council England have awarded Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) £1.3m of funding as part of its 2018-22 National Portfolio. The four-year partnership ensures continued delivery of FLAMIN, which has supported, commissioned, developed and nurtured artists work in the moving image since being established as an Arts Council NPO in 2005.

The support of the Arts Council means we can continue to deliver key schemes and programmes, including FLAMIN Productions, our flagship commissioning scheme for mid-career artists, and the Film London Jarman Award, which recognises and supports innovative UK-based artists working with moving image.

It also allows us to develop new projects that respond to the changing landscape of artists' moving image, offering increased opportunities for artists and audiences across the country through award schemes, training, touring programmes and partnerships.

Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that our Arts Council England funding has been confirmed for the next four years. The UK boasts a phenomenal wealth of talented artist filmmakers, and FLAMIN is absolutely committed to supporting them, from training, support and production funding through to spotlighting rising stars with the annual Jarman Award. The filmmakers we work with innovate, blur boundaries, challenge perceptions and force us to think about the world in different ways – this is all vital work, and we owe ACE a huge debt of thanks for their ongoing support.”

Andrea Lissoni, Senior Curator, International Art (Film), Tate Modern and Film London Board Member, said: "FLAMIN has moved from strength to strength and is a fundamental contributor to building the profile of artists’ moving image nationally and internationally. Its unique positioning within the Film London network accesses a wealth of both art and film sector knowledge and skills. I look forward to FLAMIN delivering its ambitious, renewed programme of activities across 2018 – 2022, raising the profile of artists and screening their films all over the country and across the various platforms that artists are always the first to find and challenge.”

To date FLAMIN Productions have backed an extraordinary range of talented British artist filmmakers, including Ben Rivers (Two Years at Sea), Elizabeth Price (West Hinder), Sebastian Buerkner (The Chimera of M.), Sarah Turner (Public House) and Mark Leckey (Dream English Kid 1964-1999AD).

The Film London Jarman Award, which has a reputation for spotting rising stars in UK artists’ moving image, has just announced the shortlist for 2017. Previous shortlisted artists include Duncan Campbell, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Luke Fowler, Elizabeth Price and Laure Prouvost, all of whom went on to be shortlisted for or win the Turner Prize.
