Meet the London Calling 2016 shortlist

Date posted: 01.03.2016

Fresh off the back of Balcony's Crystal Bear win at this year's Berlinale, we're proud to reveal a brand new round of short film commissions! 20 London-based filmmaking teams have been selected to produce short films through our London Calling and London Calling Plus programmes in 2016.

This news follows our announcement last week of the two films which will be produced through our new Shakespeare's Sisters short film fund

Telling diverse stories

Covering everything from sci-fi to documentary and period drama, 2016 presents the scheme's most diverse slate of stories and talent yet. We're also proud that over 50% of the teams feature female writers and directors.

Backing London's emerging filmmakers

London Calling offers grants of up to £4k for emerging filmmakers with storytelling experience, while London Calling Plus aims to develop London's black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) talent with grants of up to £15k for filmmakers with a proven track record across film, television or theatre. Both programmes contain a crucial training component with guidance from industry mentors.

Both funds are supported by the BFI NET.WORK, Creative Skillset and five London boroughs, along with industry partners Performance and Panalux. Seven of the London Calling short films are receiving awards via our borough film fund partners Eastern Edge Film Fund (Redbridge and Waltham Forest), Southern Exposure Film Fund (Lambeth and Southwark) and Enable Short Film Fund (Wandsworth).
