Titles unveiled for UK’s only export market for British film

Date posted: 02.06.2016

We are proud to announce the first new titles secured for this year’s London Screenings, the UK’s only export market dedicated to UK film.

Taking place from 20-23 June at London’s BFI Southbank, the exclusive event is set to welcome hundreds of top international and domestic buyers to see an exciting range of new British films and meet UK companies.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said: “Along with a wealth of high-quality UK films under one roof in an easily-navigable location we’ll also be showing our invitees more by way of work-in-progress titles and ensuring they can get a handle on which films, producers and companies they want to connect with well in advance of the event itself.”

Peter Rogers, Chair of Film Export UK, said: “Our members, the UK sales companies, have come to treasure the London Screenings as the event's stature has grown over the years and the strands have been fine-tuned. In addition to closing deals for our latest films we relish the opportunity to see our customers outside the bustle of the festival treadmill. The relaxed and friendly yet well-focused atmosphere is highly conducive to the export of UK films.”

This year’s programme

The 2016 edition will feature 13 premieres, including Tommy’s Honour (Timeless Films) and Whisky Galore (GFM), both of which have their World premiere at EIFF, along with The Hippopotamus (Metrodome International), The Neighbor (Salt), and premieres from Dogwoof and Moviehouse. Also screening are Cannes titles from Hanway, Content Media, Metro International, Bankside and Altitude. The event will also host a ‘Coming Soon’ strand featuring screenings of unseen and work-in-progress titles, giving delegates a sneak peek of promising new British titles.

The event’s annual Breakthrough strand also returns, providing a crucial platform for emerging British filmmakers to get their work seen by sales companies and festival curators. Titles for this year’s Breakthrough slate include the tale of troubled rock n’ roller Hi-Lo Joe, ultra-tense home invasion thriller Us And Them, and Scottish roadtrip flick Moon Dogs. Breakthrough forms part of Film London’s dedicated support for up-and-coming talent and boasts an impressive track record of films being acquired for representation or festival participation.

Developed and led by Film London, London Screenings 2016 is supported by the BFI Mayor of London, Film Export UK and UK Trade & Investment.
