Small-budget film Dartmoor Killing makes big waves

Date posted: 16.09.2015

A dark story of a friendship put to the test, Dartmoor Killing opens this Friday.

Training and support

The team behind the film benefitted from a range of Film London support, graduating from the innovative Build Your Audience initiative (then called Audience on Demand) which offers insight and advice on issues such as marketing and distribution, pitching to potential financiers at Micro Market and attending this year's London Screenings as part of the 'Breakthrough' strand, which gives emerging British filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work to the international marketplace.

The support, advice and hard work have clearly paid off, with an impressive series of events taking place to increase the buzz around the film. These events included special previews, Q&A sessions, press screenings and festival attendances. Use was also made of Ourscreen, a crowdsourcing platform which enables filmmakers and film-lovers to achieve cinema screenings via ticket pre-sales.

A fight for survival

Co-written and directed by BAFTA-winner Peter Nicholson, the psychological thriller is set in the brooding and atmospheric landscape of Dartmoor and follows two young female friends on a hiking weekend.

Though inseparable, both women are hiding secrets; after encountering a charismatic stranger, they are soon led into a web of mind games and betrayal that becomes a terrifying fight for survival.
