Build Your Audience with Film London

Date posted: 11.02.2015

Film London's innovative course on film distribution, sales and marketing is back! The third edition of Build Your Audience is open for applications until 23 March.

Funded by Creative Skillset, the course welcomes UK filmmakers on their first or second feature who currently have a film near completion or with production finance in place. With workshops from industry experts and dedicated mentoring, Build Your Audience produces tailored distribution and marketing plans for feature projects.

Previous graduates include the teams behind BAFTA nominee Kajaki: The True Story, Independent Spirit Award nominee Appropriate Behaviour and Nina Forever, which will have its world premiere at SXSW.

The deadline for applications to Build Your Audience is Monday 23 March.

What can participants expect?

The four-month programme (April to July 2015) will consist of three two-day workshops, one International Focus day workshop and two final pitch days.

Workshop sessions cover the breadth of opportunities for completed features, including:

  • The traditional sales and distribution model - the value chain and how it's changing
  • Revealing audience trends, profiles and behaviours
  • Online DIY marketing and distribution
  • Event releasing
  • Exhibition and the festival circuits
  • Online digital distribution
  • Online platforms and how they work
  • Typical deals and how to negotiate
  • Rentals / recoupment

Between workshop sessions, participants will benefit from dedicated mentor support, enabling them to pinpoint where their project fits within the market place.

The Build Your Audience programme aims to help participants discover the optimal way to reach an audience for their films.
