Meryl Starts Shooting The Iron Lady

Date posted: 12.01.2011

Shooting begins in London this month on The Iron Lady, the hotly anticipated feature in which multi Oscar®-winner Meryl Streep stars as the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The film will focus on Thatcher's later years as she battles retirement and ill health and looks back on some key moments of her political career. Jim Broadbent will play her husband, Denis, while Peep Show's Olivia Colman takes on the role of their daughter Carol.

British screenwriter Abi Morgan (Brick Lane) provides the script and Phyllida Lloyd will direct. The Iron Lady will be Lloyd's first feature following the 2008 box-office smash Mamma Mia!, which also starred Streep.

With a reported budget of approx $20million, the film has been financed by Pathé, Film4 and the UK Film Council.
