Funding, Training & Industry Events
The next Film London Exhibitors' Forum on Thursday 16 September is the second part of the before and after at The Phoenix cinema, following their Centenary restoration project. Discussions at this session will surround an exploration of archive film and how this can work for exhibitors in attracting new audiences.
The Autumn Film Workshop by Parallax Media is a special bespoke programme offering six film directors the chance to make a short in a set timeframe. The workshop will explore British and Iranian film-making traditions and will run full-time for 12 consecutive days at the Royal College of Art. The deadline to apply is 18 September. Bookings are now open for the fourth British Federation of Film Societies National Conference for Community Cinemas (18-19 September). With a focus on film education, the event is aimed at organisers and volunteers at community cinema and film societies.
Festivals & Screenings
Film Directing for Women (FD4W) 2010 - empowering, supporting and encouraging new and promising female directors - starts tomorrow and runs until 12 September.
Rapture Film Club introduces another monthly screening on 14 September. Watch Just Wright starring Queen Latifah, Common and Paula Patton, and stay on afterwards to discuss the issues raised in the film. Read an interview with Rapture founder Priscilla Igwe about independent film-making pioneer Tyler Perry.
Shorts by 14 young Londoners who were given special access to 'break into' the Museum of London will be screened for the first time on 15 September. The screening will be followed by a discussion about film as a medium for young people to explore the history of their cities. Tickets are free, to reserve a seat call the box office on 020 7001 9844.

2.5m viewers tuned in on Tuesday night to watch the first episode of Channel 4's new series This is England '86, based on Shane Meadows' hit film This is England. The episode was written by Jack Thorne and is one of two directed by Tom Harper, both PULSE alumni.
