Jeremy Thomas to Address PFM 2010
Date posted: 14.10.2010
The fourth Film London Production Finance Market (PFM) will take place on 20 and 21 October in association with the 54th BFI London Film Festival. The Market is the only event of its kind and this year it will open with a keynote address by Oscar®-winning British producer Jeremy Thomas.
Thomas, founder of Recorded Picture Company and its international sales arm HanWay Films, is a veteran British producer with over 50 projects under his belt. He has worked with a wide range of film-makers and has been involved in productions all over the world, including Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor, David Cronenberg's Crash, Takeshi Kitano's Brother and, more recently, Jerzy Skolimowski's Essential Killing and Wim Wenders' upcoming Dance: Or We Are Lost. In conversation with the CEO of Film London, Adrian Wootton, Thomas will share his vast experience of sourcing finance for film over the years and explore the challenges facing the industry today.
International Appeal
Designed to meet the need for a highly focused and results-driven film financing market, the PFM has established itself as a key date in the film industry calendar over its short history and each year it attracts top level producers and financiers from across the globe. To date, around 20 projects and companies have benefited directly from finance raised and relationships built as a result of the PFM.
This year's PFM is more international than ever, with delegates coming from all over the world, including territories coming to the Market for the first time such as Russia, Hungary and Switzerland. The worldwide appeal of the PFM continues to be cemented thanks to the support of European funding body MEDIA and strategic partnerships with the 37ºSouth Market at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), the New Cinema Network at the Rome International Film Festival and, new this year, the Ile de France Film Commission.
Movers and Shakers
Delegates at the 2010 PFM will participate in approximately 750 face-to-face meetings and a series of seminars and networking events during the two-day event.
The event will see Warner Bros., Paramount and The Weinstein Company, mingling alongside key European players such as French Wild Bunch, Spanish Filmax, Rai Cinema from Italy or German Bavaria Film International, all coming to the PFM in their film financing capacity.
On the other side of the table will be over 60 producers, presenting projects with almost €230m of production value. Names include Rebecca O'Brien's Sixteen Films from the UK, Italy's Lumière & Co (the production company behind Golden Lion winner The Circle), Germany's Razor Film (Waltz with Bashir) and Spain's Telespan 2000, responsible for the international hit The Other Side of the Bed.
The Film London Production Finance Market 2010 is supported by the London Development Agency, the UK Film Council, UK Trade & Investment, MEDIA and peacefulfish.
