A Tale to Tell in 90 Seconds

Date posted: 10.11.2010

Following a successful first run in 2009, Film London and the Mayor of London have launched the Film London in 90 Seconds competition for a second year.

The competition invites budding film-makers in 11 boroughs across the capital to get hands-on training in film-making, shoot their own short stories and be in with a chance to win £500.

The 2010 Film London in 90 Seconds competition launches today in Barnet, Brent, Croydon, Hackney, Havering, Hillingdon, Islington, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton and Tower Hamlets. Under the theme 'Capital Tales', this year's competition is looking for films that demonstrate the ability to tell a compelling, fun, entertaining or moving story about the capital in just a minute and a half.

Launched for the first time last year as part of the long standing and successful film production scheme London Borough Film Fund Challenge (LBFFC), the competition aims to introduce Londoners to the great possibilities of film as a medium. Film London in 90 Seconds offers free local workshops and the chance to see the best work rewarded with a cash prize. Moreover, the best film out of the 11 participating boroughs will also be screened at Film London's annual Best of Boroughs film awards, aka the BoBs.

Last year's competition was won by the inventive and adrenaline-packed short Crazy in Barnet (pictured). The winner, Elisahama Udorok, is a young film-maker who has made the most of the opportunity in the past year: "Since winning the Film London Prize I have been involved in 12 small projects. Each project has allowed me to work on new editing techniques, camera angles and higher quality footage. Winning the Film London prize meant so much to me and all involved in the Crazy in Barnet video. We were able to see first hand that there are people in the film industry who care about young aspiring film makers. I always thought that I would need a top of the range camera and expensive editing suite to make a video that would be respected by those beyond my closest friends and family. Winning this award proved me wrong. I hope more and more young people grab this great opportunity to share and put their ideas in motion", says Udorok.
