Domestic and international film-makers will undoubtedly benefit from an exciting new collaboration between Film London and Screen South. Inward investment and location support services across both screen agencies will be integrated, strengthening the reach and assistance that the region can offer.
Universal's Ridley Scott-helmed Robin Hood* will open Cannes Film Festival on 12 May this year. Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, Corpse Bride) will head up the jury.
Freestyle*, the latest feature from Microwave - Film London's micro-budget feature film-making scheme - is now available to rent and buy across all platforms. Young film-makers of the future are to be showcased at London 2012. Win a chance to get your work showcased at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to an audience of millions through a major new UK-wide competition Film Nation: Shorts.
National Youth Theatre (NYT) are offering 10 young film-maker/performers aged between 16-25 the chance to become part of a film and performance group who will stage a ground breaking production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, performed partly in London, and partly in Shanghai, in the summer of 2010. The challenge is to create a site-specific production for multi-lingual audiences while retaining some of Shakespeare's original text. The productions will be interactive and work together, so NYT are looking for people who are comfortable and skilled in front of the camera as well as behind it. Applications close on 5 April.
The first ever Croydon Film Festival, a project supported through Film London's Outer Boroughs Pilot Fund, launches on Thursday. Special events will take place over the entire month, including: CineCabaGoGo - the world's smallest art deco cinema in the back of a black cab; a free Film-makers' Conference at the Croydon Clocktower; and the 48hr Challenge (16 - 18 April).
Sci-Fi-London has announced that its own 48 Hour Film Challenge is being extended and is open for anyone in the UK to take part. The Challenge is part of the wider festival that takes place in just a few weeks (10 - 12 April). Participating teams should register online.
The Roxy Bar and Screen, supported by Film London's Cultural Film Exhibition Fund and sponsored by Hendrick's Gin will present a 10 week season of forty extraordinary films (4 April – 8 June). Movies selected from around the world are widely accepted to have pushed the boundaries of film-making. Highlights include a double-bill of The Wizard of Oz and The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert; a rare screening of 7 hour arthouse epic Sátántangó; and a double-bill of Alan Clarke's original Elephant and Gus Van Sant's 2003 film of the same name.
Urban Screen, the film club supported by Film London'sCultural Exhibition Fund and dedicated to showcasing new talent, is showing Dead Man Running* at the Albany on 7 April. Tamer Hassan (Kick-Ass, Eastern Promises) and Ashley Walters (Hustle, Life and Lyrics) will be making a special appearance. Short films also screening include Rebecca Johnson's Top Girl and Ahmet Husseyin's We're Not Blood.
Come and join the mix at the next Show and Tell event on 14 April from 7pm onwards. The event, for established people who work in film, TV and digital, is a chance to mingle and make friends in an informal environment.

Applications are now open for the annual Westminster Arts funding scheme, offering small-scale funding for arts projects taking place in the City of Westminster. Westminster Arts fund projects in various art forms including: dance, theatre, visual arts, film and photography, as well as festivals and cultural events. Awards of £100–£3,000 are open to organisations, groups and individuals. The deadline for applications is 1 June. Applicants must live, work or study in Westminster.
Show us what sickness and healthiness mean to you and the people you love by entering UCL Medical School's short film competition, which is being judged by director Ken Loach (Looking for Eric, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) and actor/director David Morrissey (Nowhere Boy/Don't Worry About Me). Eating disorders, chronic pain, embarrassing illnesses, scary diagnoses, staying fit, caring for others are possible subjects. Films will be used to help student doctors understand how their patients really feel. The competition is open to anyone and everyone, and £500 prizes are up for grabs. Deadline is 28 May 2010.
