Summer in the City
Hollywood Heavyweights in London

Four high profile, big budget productions have chosen to shoot in London over the coming months. Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret, the latest instalments from the X-Men and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, and the film remake of Captain America will all be enjoying summer in the capital.

Harryhausen's Creatures on the South Bank
Exhibition at the London Film Museum
Last week legendary special effects creator Ray Harryhausen turned 90 with a celebration at the BFI hosted by John Landis. Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, George Lucas and Nick Park were among those who paid tribute to the man who put the 'special' in special effects. His iconic creations will be on display at the London Film Museum until 2011.

Inception in London
Location of the Month - Flaxman Gallery, UCL
The Flaxman Gallery at University College London in Bloomsbury became the host to scenes in Christopher Nolan's latest film, Inception. The highly anticipated psychological thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio is the first production to have shot at this exclusive location.

Funding, Training & Industry Events
The Film London Production Finance Market (PFM) will return in October. The deadline for applications from experienced UK and international producers and financiers is Friday 9 July.

Skillset Film Skills Fund
awards grants to organisations developing, facilitating and delivering film-related training and development activities. The fund is divided into several funding schemes and programmes, targeting different sections of the workforce and addressing different skill areas.

Applications are now open for Docs 360, development programme and competition offering documentary film-makers the chance to win £5,000 cash plus £20,000 worth of digital marketing support. Backed by Skillset's Film Skills Fund, Channel D and Dogwoof, Docs 360 is run by Initialize Films and the Digital Filmmakers' Network. Apply by 20 July.

The Met Film School, based at Ealing Studios, has launched a Postgraduate Diploma in Filmmaking. This programme is designed for those looking for an industry-relevant qualification to develop film-making skills.

Frames Per Second networking event will be back on 14 July at Jewel Bar from 6.30 - 8.30pm.

Festivals & Screenings

Rich Mix Cinema is hosting the latest Urban Screen event on 8 July - a screening of London-shot revenge tale, 44 Inch Chest. The event, supported through Film London's Cultural Film Exhibition Fund, will be followed by a Q&A.

The Kilburn Film Festival starts today and runs through to 11 July at venues across West London. This year the Festival is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries.

To mark the DVD release of The Blind Side - the Oscar®-winning feature starring Sandra Bullock - Rapture Film Club is screening the box office smash. With the support of Film London, this month's event will take place on 13 July at the Stratford Picturehouse and will be hosted by rising star, Lateef Lovejoy.

Sunday Nights are the home of vintage film at the Prince Charles Cinema - catch Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard this weekend.

The 12th Rushes Soho Shorts Festival has announced this year's programme. The non-profit event will take place from 21 to 30 July.

Festivals etc. currently seeking submissions include: The first Walthamstow International Film Festival - deadline 15 July; The London Greek Film Festival - deadline 20 July; Raindance and InterCasino's Extraordinary short film competition - deadline 25 July; and Quickflick's Summer Show - 30 July.

London River
, the critically acclaimed film based on the 7/7 London bombings is released in cinemas on Friday. It has been revealed that Madonna has cast James Fox and his son Laurence Fox in W.E. - a film about Edward VIII's wife, Wallis Simpson, which she is currently shooting in London. As the BFI National Archive celebrates 75 years, it launches BFI Most Wanted, a list of 75 feature films currently missing which they want to rediscover and add to the national collection.
