With the New Year upon us we will be taking a look at how well the Film London and Film London Artists' Moving Image Network websites have been working for you. Graham King has been named OBE in the UK's New Year's Honours List, while Film4 head Tessa Ross has been made CBE. King, the GK Films founder and London-born Oscar-winning producer of The Departed, said it was one of the proudest moments of his life; “I never imagined a lad from North London would be recognised in this way for following his dream.” More recently King reteamed with Scorcese to produce The Young Victoria* and will soon release upcoming crime drama London Boulevard* starring Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley.

The National Society of Film Critics has honoured Nelson Lowry for his Production Design on Wes Anderson's animated adaptation, Fantastic Mr. Fox, shot at London's 3 Mills Studios. A remarkably tight Best Supporting Actor contest saw Paul Schneider from Bright Star* tie with Inglourious Basterds' Christoph Waltz, closely followed by Christian McKay from Me And Orson Welles* - Richard Linklater's latest, which was also part-shot in the capital.

The Sundance Institute has added the world premiere of Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife* to its line-up. Shabana Azmi, Goldy Notay, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Sally Hawkins star in the Punjabi ghost story set in Southall. It will be Chadha's third feature in Sundance after Bend It Like Beckham and What's Cooking?

The latest edition of the London Short Film Festival starts on Friday. The festival, which runs until 17 January at major venues across London, brings together an expansive programme of over 200 short films, exclusively profiling the work of Britain's most exciting up-and-coming film-makers. Find out more about the films that have been directly supported through Film London's Artists' Moving Image Network, the PULSE digital shorts scheme and the London Borough Film Fund Challenge.

If you're based in the UK and you're looking to focus your freelance career in locations, then you may be eligible to apply for Assistant Location Manager Training. This six month vocational training programme, developed by Film London with support from Skillset, is being led by experienced location manager Harriet Lawrence (Glorious 39*). Applications close at noon on Monday 25 January 2010.

Film London's Exhibitors' Forums are an opportunity for exhibitors, festivals organisers, art centres, film officers from local authorities and freelancers, to share sector news, opportunities and best practice. Paul Homer, Adam Copper and Cathy Poole have all been confirmed as speakers for Film London's Exhibitors' Forum: Education taking place at 14 January at The Phoenix.

She Writes is a new training programme for women screenwriters co-presented by Bird's Eye View and The Script Factory, and supported by Skillset. Catering for eight emerging women writers, the programme will take place over a year, during which time participants working on a feature screenplay will enjoy a residential retreat, attend specialist workshops, meet with mentors, gain a better understanding of the industry, and workshop their projects with actors. Applications close 29 January 2010.

The LGBT Film Network UK will be hosting its 2nd event on Tuesday 26 January 2010 for an evening of networking and screenings. This networking forum for LGBT film-makers has well over 100 members who come from all disciplines of film and TV. A selection of member's short films will be screened during the evening, which will be held at Ku Bar on Lisle Street from 6pm.

As we say farewell to the noughties and some of us begin to think about what we'll be calling the next decade, Film Friends Forever will be going 'Back to the Future' with a look at how the film pioneers from 100 years ago thought we would be living our lives today. A selection of silent science fiction and futuristic films from the 1900's to 1920's will screen at Queen of Hoxton on 6 January.

The trailer for Christopher Nolan's eagerly anticipated next feature following The Dark Knight*, is now online. Inception*, a contemporary sci-fi actioner partly shot in London and set within the architecture of the mind, stars Leonardo DiCaprio.
