The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced last week the full list of nominees for the 2010 awards - which includes writer/director Eran Creevy in the Outstanding Debut category for his Film London Microwave feature Shifty*, as well as the Film London-supported film I Do Air for Best Short.

The UK Film Council box office and production statistics revealed 2009 was a great year for cinema going with admissions across the UK at their highest since 2002. Foreign investment through film-making also reached record levels with London faring particularly well in the report – marking itself apart as a key destination for film-makers, as well as a region populated by cinema enthusiasts.

Following Oscar®-winning success with Million Dollar Baby, actor turned director Clint Eastwood has continued his astonishing career helming a string of extraordinary films. At almost 80, Eastwood has returned to London to complete the UK shoot for his latest film, Hereafter*, which marks the first time the director has shot in the UK since making White Hunter, Black Heart at Pinewood Studios in 1989.

Film London's Film-makers' Festival Fund aims to support the development of film-makers and moving image artists' careers by assisting them in promoting themselves and their short film projects at international festivals and markets. To apply for an international travel grant, or to strike a film print for exhibition at a festival, complete your submission before 16 February 2010.

The Rio cinema is delighted to present a special screening of films from the Hackney Archives on 30 January. The films showcase footage of Hackney landmarks throughout the last Century enabling viewer  to relive the borough's vibrant history on the big screen. The screening is the first in a number of events that will mark the Rio's 100th anniversary this year. This project is supported by Goldsmiths' Company and Film London's Digital Film Archive Fund.

Urban Screen, the film club supported by Film London's Cultural Exhibition Fund and dedicated to showcasing new talent, will be screening A Prophet at The Lexi Cinema on 9 February at 7.30pm. They will also be showing a short and host an industry Q&A.

Film-makers have until 29 January 2010 to enter their short films into Fujifilm Shorts - the new Fujifilm Motion Picture short film competition. Following the success of Fujifilm Shorts 2009, short film-makers have the chance to win a host of great prizes including £4,000 worth of Fujifilm Motion Picture film stock.

Bold and innovative programme B3 FeatureLab has returned for a third year to 'supercharge' feature film projects from black and ethnic minority film-makers. Backed by Film4, Binger Film Lab and the Skillset Film Skills Fund, the programme is calling for applications from film-makers with a track record in film, TV, radio, the visual arts and new media. Fifteen participants will get the unrivalled opportunity to be equipped with the best practical tools to develop a full-length film project capable of attracting production finance. The deadline for applications is 29 January 2010.

The London Film School has been selected by Skillset to run an emerging talent programme, aimed at UK screenwriters, directors and producers. HOTHOUSE provides an opportunity for nine individuals or teams who have already had some success in the arts, to develop a signature film and make it ready for financing, production and its audience. The programme will run from April 2010 and the initial deadline for applications is 1 February.

UK-based training body Skillset and production company Magic Light Pictures are inviting applications for its Producer Placement Programme, which starts in April. The programme aims to take a group of 5 up and coming feature film producers and progress their careers to the next level through a series of work placements in key areas of the British film industry, as well as workshops and 'audiences' with' industry personalities. The deadline for submissions is 19 February 2010.

Award-winning documentary film-maker Geoffrey Smith, who has just been nominated for Director's Guild of America Awards, will present a masterclass on 20 February on How to Make an Award-Winning Feature Documentary. Geoffrey's film The English Surgeon won 10 major awards (HotDocs, SilverDocs), and has been shown in over 90 international festivals. His last film Presumed Guilty is currently being rolled out at film festivals worldwide.

The LFA Filmmaking Diploma Open House on 2 February is an introduction to London Film Academy's one-year Filmmaking Diploma. The evening includes an overview of the course with BAFTA-winning writer-director Stuart Urban, plus a screening of students' graduation short films and a Q&A session with the film-makers themselves. The first Himalaya Film & Cultural Festival, celebrating the rich and varied cultures of the world's mightiest mountain range, starts on 28 January. Catch the showcase of film, music, art and photography in venues across London until 12 February - screening highlights include UK premieres of films such as Kashf: The Lifting of the Veil, which explores issues of identity in Pakistan, or Nepal's magical tale Kagbeni, alongside old and modern classics such as Kite Runner or Oscar-nominated short The Little Terrorist.

An exclusive trailer for Street Dance* is online. Diversity, Flawless and George Sampson - winners of Britain's Got Talent - star in the first non-US live action film to be shot in 3D. Street Dance is released in May 2010.
