Save the Date for London Film Day
Date posted: 11.02.2010
London will hold its first city-wide celebration of cinema on Sunday 21 March, with a day of workshops, film-themed activities, prizes and screenings. Family comedy Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang will be the focus of the day and reduced ticket prices will be available in the first ever simultaneous world public premiere in 15 cinemas across the city presented by the Mayor of London.
London Film Day, in partnership with Film London and the BFI London Film Festival, will promote the cinema-going experience to residents and visitors to the city and honour the film-making achievements of one of the world’s most cinematic capitals.
Free Fun and Red Carpet Treatment
Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang is a heart-warming, laugh-out-loud follow up to the successful Nanny McPhee (2005), with Oscar®-winner Emma Thompson once again donning prosthetics to play the governess with special powers. The film, which also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight), Rhys Ifans (The Boat That Rocked), Maggie Smith (Harry Potter films), Bill Bailey (Hot Fuzz) and Daniel Mays (Shifty), will be publically screened for the first time at London Film Day, before it goes on general release on 26 March.
Discounted tickets - £5 for adults and £1 for children - will be available at all participating venues for London Film Day. Cinema-goers from across London will stand a chance to see stars and crew from the film by attending the World public premiere for Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.
Emma Thompson, said: "Sharing Fantasia at the Holloway Odeon with my sister, Mum and Dad is one of the most powerful memories of my childhood. If any of you gets to keep a memory like that from coming to see Nanny McPhee with your family, then it will all have been worth it!"
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson explains: “Londoners love film and with cinema admissions at their highest for years, we want to bring the excitement of a world premiere to local cinemas in boroughs throughout the capital. London is one of the great film-making centres and there will be plenty of chances to find out more about the industry and how it works. With a brand new film, London Film Day is the perfect opportunity to experience first hand the excitement of a premiere and see some stars at your local cinema.”
In addition hosting this magical preview, the 15 cinemas across the city taking part in London Film Day will hold free workshops for young film fans on anything from modelling and animation techniques, to storytelling and storyboarding.
