Transport for London has teamed up with Film London and the Bicycle Film Festival to launch its first ever short film competition. Budding film-makers are invited to submit 3-minute short films that best showcase London's cycling revolution following the launch of the Barclays Cycle Hire and the opening of the first two of 12 bike 'superhighways' by the Mayor of London.
The new schemes are set to revolutionise the way Londoners and visitors move across the capital, with bikes available for hire at convenient locations across the city and new fast and safe routes for cyclists to access the centre from the suburbs. The Barclays Cycle Hire alone, which will put 6,000 new bikes in circulation, is expected to create up to 40,000 new cycle trips every day in the city.
The new competition celebrates these improvements to cycling in London by encouraging film-makers to submit documentary, fiction or animation shorts that look at the city 'on the move' and at its transformation through the new schemes. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 and over and entrants have until 6 September to enter their submissions. Full details of the competition can be found on TfL's dedicated website.
The winning films will be showcased at a special event at the Bicycle Film Festival (BFF) in October 2010 and will be part of the 2011 BFF touring programme, which will be shown in 39 countries. Prizes include a £1,000 cash prize as well as designer cycling apparel and accessories.
