The Jarman Award
Shortlist Announced
The Film London Jarman Award for artist film-makers has revealed the shortlist for this year's award. Spartacus Chetwynd, Ben Rivers, Zineb Sedira and Emily Wardill vie for the prestigious accolade, which will be announced in October.

Two shorts by budding film-makers in Newham (Physical Education) and Southwark (Assessment) bagged the Audience and Jury Awards respectively at the well-attended BoBs ceremony at BAFTA last week.

Funding, Training & Industry Events
The next Film London Exhibitors' Surgery will take place on 26 August. One to one appointments are available to offer advice to cinema staff, film festival organisers, film education officers, arts officers and anyone with questions relating to film exhibition. Book now.
Raindance is holding an evening class called 'Movie Money' (part of the Producer's Foundation Certificate on 10 August. The course will look at utilising the tax-efficient structures to help raise finance for your film.
Happy 75th Anniversary Twentieth Century Fox is an exhibition to celebrate the birthday of one of the key film studios of all times. The exhibit runs until 30 August at the London Film Museum and includes costumes from films such as Minority Report, Moulin Rouge and Fantastic Four, as well as props from Alien and Star Wars.
Festivals & Screenings
The Frontline Club is screening two documentaries as part of their Liberation Season - Africa's Last Taboo (5 August) about homosexuality in the continent and India's Forgotten Women (9 August) about crimes against women in a country paradoxically presided by one.
Catch The Screen on The Green between 7 August - 18 September. The programme of outdoor screenings featuring a huge inflatable screen and a state of the art digital projector, includes a very special showing of 70s classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Dulwich Park this Saturday.
Nitrate Film at the BFI (until 31 August) offers an opportunity to view nitrate prints for the first time in ten years. The season is taking place at BFI Southbank, the only public cinema in the UK allowed to screen nitrate, which includes wartime classics The Ghost of St Michael's and Les Maudits.

In the News
Actress Sally Hawkins speaks to the Evening Standard about her lead role in Made in Dagenham, a new film produced by BAFTA-winner Stephen Woolley and tipped as 'the new Full Monty'. Film London-supported director Tom Harper (Cubs, Cherries) takes the helm of romantic comedy Lost For Words. The Working Title film, penned by Richard Curtis, is due to start shooting in January.

New work by FLAMIN-supported artists Isaac Julien and Emily Richardson are among the films selected for the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival (1-11 September), which announced its line-up this week. Film-maker and Film London board member John Akomfrah will be presenting his new film The Nine Muses in the same section.
