FLAMIN Productions Awards Announced and New Round of Applications Open
Date posted: 21.04.2010
FLAMIN, Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network, today announced the first five projects greenlit by the FLAMIN Productions fund. Works by London-based artist film-makers Phil Coy, Charlotte Ginsborg, Anja Kirschner & David Panos, Elizabeth Price and Ben Rivers, will benefit from a total investment of over £170,000 to create new moving image works.
Supported by Arts Council England, FLAMIN Productions is the only scheme of its kind in the UK, offering artists working with the moving image a unique opportunity to develop their careers. The fund supports the production of large scale, single-screen work which represents a major new step in an artist’s practice. The commission of the five films follows the FLAMIN Productions Development awards, announced in August last year, which gave 12 artists - including the final five selected for production - funding as well as bespoke mentoring and support to mature their ideas and consolidate their projects.
The first FLAMIN Productions awardees will receive between £30,000 and £35,000 towards films ranging from computer animation to observational documentary. The five greenlit works present innovative, boundary-pushing concepts and explore themes as diverse as Bertolt Brecht, the community life of a south London street and a fantasy ship wreck in a remote part of the sea unclaimed by any state.
Additionally, FLAMIN Productions has also launched a fresh call for applications to find up to five new works to produce. The fund is looking to invest a further £130,000 in projects by London-based artists which mean a significant leap in their body of work, can be screened or exhibited widely and will best benefit from the development and mentoring opportunities in the programme. Following the application process, up to 15 artists will undergo an initial development period of which up to five will finally be selected for production. Submissions of ideas are accepted until 5pm on 1 July 2010.
