'Having Kudos filming in one of our boroughs is always a pleasure. They make excellent drama, and they are efficient. Ashes to Ashes is based in Bermondsey, near Tower Bridge, so Southwark and Lewisham were the first places they searched for locations. Both boroughs have a wealth of period locations, and it's not as busy or as built up as boroughs north of the river. Because of our minimum lead times, and sensible parking policy, late script changes, or schedule re-jigs are not a problem. We routinely sort out locations within days or even hours.' Andrew Pavord, Southwark and Lewisham Film Office.

Silwood Street, close to Milwall Football Ground in Bermondsey, proved to be the ideal location for the filming of a crime scene involving a robbery and getaway car. The road runs beneath a set of railway arches and finishes at a dead end which makes it perfect for car chases and stunts.

Location manager, Mark Grimwade said: 'The shoot went by very smoothly; we felt that the housing estates to the right of the road really worked for the 1980s period setting so we created a set of road works at the dead end of the street and had police helping with traffic control at the other end'.

'Because the scene involved a getaway car driving at speed, with masked men at the wheel, it was crucial that local residents and passers by were aware that a shoot was going on' said Andrew. The production therefore worked very closely with the local council to ensure that the filming of the stunt could take place easily with little interruptions.
