Burlesque Fairytales at Pinewood Underwater Tank
Date posted: 25.12.2008
Things have been getting festive at Pinewood Studios’ Underwater Tank with a visit from Spain’s Olympic-winning synchronized swimming team.
The team were hired by Home Corp to shoot ‘Burlesque Fairytales’ a seasonal TV commercial for Freixenet Cava. With the stage blacked out, crystal clear water and huge amounts of glitter the silver medalists adorned tailor-made gold costumes whilst performing their award-winning routine, captured on high speed camera.
The Underwater Tank is a unique facility, permanently full - the water temperature is maintained at 22 degrees C (72 degrees F) and can be raised to 28 degrees C (82 degrees F) within 48 hours. It has fully automated chemical dosing and ultra violet treatment systems – keeping the water crystal clear and at a comfortable working level.
Since the tank opened in 2005 it has housed a number of productions ranging from feature films, to TV and commercials, including Elizabeth: the Golden Age, Atonement, Little Britain, Basic Instinct 2 and 1408.
Recently the Underwater Tank has been used for the filming of another Olympic medalist, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, as part of the Sports Personality of the Year programme. A special ‘behind the scenes’ look at the filming can be found on the BBC website.
The special seasonal commercial can be viewed on the Freixenet website.
Further details on the tank including dimensions and contact details can be found on the Pinewood website.
