Open House London

This year Film London is working in partnership with Open House to add an extra dimension to the Open House London weekend (15 – 16 September).
Film London aims to highlight the fantastically diverse range of architecture available to film-makers in London and to celebrate architecture’s contribution to both the big and small screen.
Many of the properties taking part in Open House London also serve as film locations and Film London has identified at least 90 such properties within its locations library.
London on Location has concentrated on just 12 locations which are open to the public this weekend to illustrate the different ways in which film-makers make use of the capital’s architecture:
- 30 St Mary Axe
This City of London skyscraper has featured in A Good Year (2006), Basic Instinct 2 (2006), Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion (2005), Love Actually (2003), Match Point (2006), Stormbreaker (2006)
- Alexandra and Ainsworth Estate
Based in Camden, this social housing complex has appeared in the following: Breaking and Entering (2006), Prime Suspect (TV), Waking the Dead (TV)
- City Hall
This Foster and Partners building in Southwark has appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Love Actually (2003), Run Fat Boy Run (2007), The Constant Gardener (2005), The Apprentice (TV)
- Freemasons' Hall
This art deco Camden building has been a location in Agent Cody Banks 2 (2004), Spooks (TV), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), The Line of Beauty (TV), Wings of a Dove (1997)
- Harrow School
This famous school in the borough of Harrow has featured in Goodbye, Mr Chips (1969), Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone (2001), He Knew He Was Right (TV), Ladies in Lavender (2004), Pride and Prejudice (TV), The Saint (1997)
- Old Royal Naval College
Based in Greenwich, this college can be seen in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Quills (2000), Starter for 10 (2006) The Golden Compass (2007), The Madness of King George (1994), The Mummy Returns (2001)
- Osterley Park
This neo classical house in Hounslow has appeared in Amazing Grace (2006), Kabhi Khushi Khabie Gham (2001), Miss Potter (2006) Mrs Brown (1997)
- Phoenix Cinema
This Barnet cinema has been a location in Interview with the Vampire (1994), Mr Love (1985), My Life in Film (TV), Spooks (TV), The End of the Affair (1999)
- St John's, Smith Square
This English Baroque church in Westminster has featured in Atonement (2007), Original Sin (TV), The Incredible World of HG Wells (TV), Tom & Viv (1994)
- Senate House
Based in Camden, Senate house has appeared in Batman Begins (2005), Jeeves and Wooster (TV), Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984), Richard III (1995), The Day of the Triffids (TV)
- Tooting Bec Lido
This Edwardian Lido in Wandsworth has been a location in Rosemary & Thyme (TV), Snatch (2000), Some Voices (1999)
- Wilton’s Music Hall
This Victorian music hall, based in Tower Hamlets, has featured in Catastrophe (2000), Chaplin (1992), Death Defying Acts (2007), Flyboys (2006), The Way We Live Now (TV), The Woman in White (TV), Tipping the Velvet (TV)
