London Mumbai Film Production Tournament

Date posted: 28.09.2007

Applications are now open for producers from India for the London-Mumbai Production Tournament (18 - 20 November 2007, Mumbai).

We are looking for 8 film producers from Mumbai to take up a place at the most unique, high profile, international, film finance workshop ever to happen in India.

If you are an Indian independent producer who is focused on making films for the global market, with a specific interest in UK collaboration, then the London-Mumbai Production Tournament is for you.

If selected, you will have unprecedented and exclusive access to 4 leaders from the UK film industry acting as advisers to the workshop. These are film professionals – producers, distributors, financiers, and lawyers – whose credits include Atonement, The Last King of Scotland, Becoming Jane, The Queen, Notes on a Scandal, Pride and Prejudice, Match Point, The Motorcycle Diaries, Touching the Void, Billy Elliott, and East Is East.

You will also work with 8 selected independent producers from London who are seeking Indian partners for their projects. Furthermore, there will be 4 experienced advisers from India to work with the UK producers and yourselves.

The Tournament - What is it?

The Tournament is an innovative, ambitious, custom designed workshop focused on developing the co-production and financing skills and capabilities of a selected group of Indian and UK film producers. The 2 ½ day event will provide its participants with the knowledge and contacts they would need to develop and participate in future international co-productions, in particular between the two countries. The Tournament is a unique opportunity for producers to step up to an even higher profile on the international stage.

In particular, the object of the course is to:

  • provide a forum for producers to learn about doing business in each others' country;
  • promote collaboration and understanding of UK and Indian techniques in development, film financing, co-production, distribution and exploitation;
  • deliver a greater understanding of how to access international sources of finance and distribution, and;
  • encourage networking and linking among producers, advisers and sponsors of the Tournament.

The Tournament is part of a week-long series of events in Mumbai organised by Film London and to which all participants are invited. These events are designed to share knowledge and understanding between the film sectors of India and the UK.

The deadline for applications is 12 October 2007 at 5pm GMT. There will be substantial competition for the 8 places available to Indian producers so an early application is encouraged.
