Black History Month 2007

Throughout the month, a diverse range of cultural events are on offer. These events have been scheduled with the aim to: promote knowledge of Black History and experience; disseminate information on positive Black contributions to British Society; and heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people in their cultural heritage.
2007 marks the Bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire and this is a theme reflected in a great number of the events taking place.
Every borough in London has a wealth of activities and events organized these include educational and childrens’ events such as quizzes and readings, film screenings, concerts and art exhibitions.
There are several other film related events taking place to coincide with BHM. These include:
- African Film Focus (FESPACO) - four days of African cinema at Ciné lumière
- Black History Film Day
- Cinema of Ideas: Black Cinema
- Black British film and television will be examined by Stephen Bourne during Black in the British Frame at the BFI
