London and its architecture have played a pivotal role on the big and small screens since film-making started in the capital. Film London is celebrating this with a series of special talks called Architecture on Location. The first talk by Prof Ian Christie will take place on Sunday 25 November at the Phoenix Cinema at 2pm.
The Independent Cinema Office will be presenting Developing Your Film Festival in January 2008. This two-day event has been created especially for film festivals of all size from all over the UK. Topics covered include Marketing & Audience Development, Strategic Planning and Building Creative Partnerships. Further details can be found on the ICO website.
Initialize Film Producers' Lab is Europe's hands-on programme for experienced producers who are seeking to develop strategic partnerships across Europe. They are looking for 16 producers who have a feature film project in development to take part in a project-based skills development programme which will include market meetings at the Berlin Film Festival. The programme is supported by the UK Film Council, Skillset and Olswang and will run in January 2008. The application deadline is 13 December 2007. For further details, please visit the website.
Betting on Shorts is an annual short film competition at the ICA with simultaneous screenings across Europe. The theme for this year's competition was 'Mad or Bad?'. 400 submissions were received from across the world and a programme of 16 finalists have been selected and will be screened at the ICA on 28 November 2007. From 21 November the audience will be able to bet on the winner by viewing clips of the films on the Betting on Shorts website. Prizes include ICA annual memberships, DVDs, books or cinema tickets. Discovering Latin America Film Festival is now taking place from 22 Nov – 2 Dec. 40 films will be showcased at venues across London including The Ritzy, Tate Modern and Odeon Covent Garden. Acclaimed producer Sandy Lieberson will be taking part in a panel discussion called Film Synergies on Sunday 25 November at Tate Modern. The discussion Latin American and European co-productions follows a screening of the documentary Latin America in Co-production.
BBC Three is looking for the next generation of documentary film-makers for this year's New Talent strand, Fresh. Based on the theme 'beauty', BBC New Talent is requesting submissions for an idea for a documentary film. 20 finalists will be chosen to take part in a one-day master class and pitching session. Three emerging directors will be selected and will receive a major commission for a one-off 60 minute documentary to be screened on BBC Three in 2008. To find out more, visit www.bbc.co.uk/newtalent.
